Student Responsibilities
A PPMS AVID student will:
- Remain in AVID
- Build a toolkit of AVID strategies and use them
- Become a leader (within AVID or PPMS)
- Continue to grow
- Persevere
- Display appropriate behaviors in the AVID Elective
- Come to AVID class prepared and be an active learner
- Be able to identify my point of confusion
- Investigate potential extracurricular activities and community service opportunities
Parent / Guardian Responsibilities
AVID is an elective college-preparatory system that prepares students to attend a four-year college upon high school graduation.
A supportive AVID parent:
- Partners with the AVID Elective teacher through regular communication and attendance at parent meetings
- Monitors their child’s academic process to ensure that he/she is on track for meeting the grade and course requirements to remain in AVID and prepare them for a successful high school experience
- Requires child to share their organized binder with agenda, content class Cornell notes and Tutorial Request Forms on a weekly basis
- Encourages child to participate in community service, extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities and to explore opportunities to take rigorous high school courses
- Serves as a champion for their child's success
