Responsibilities

Student Responsibilities

A PPMS AVID student will:

  • Remain in AVID
  • Build a toolkit of AVID strategies and use them
  • Become a leader (within AVID or PPMS)
  • Continue to grow
  • Persevere
  • Display appropriate behaviors in the AVID Elective
  • Come to AVID class prepared and be an active learner
  • Be able to identify my point of confusion
  • Investigate potential extracurricular activities and community service opportunities

Parent / Guardian Responsibilities

AVID is an elective college-preparatory system that prepares students to attend a four-year college upon high school graduation.

A supportive AVID parent:

  • Partners with the AVID Elective teacher through regular communication and attendance at parent meetings
  • Monitors their child’s academic process to ensure that he/she is on track for meeting the grade and course requirements to remain in AVID and prepare them for a successful high school experience
  • Requires child to share their organized binder with agenda, content class Cornell notes and Tutorial Request Forms on a weekly basis
  • Encourages child to participate in community service, extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities and to explore opportunities to take rigorous high school courses
  • Serves as a champion for their child's success
